About

The man behind Tarjema is Tim Gregory, an Arabic-English translator certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). I’ve been working in translation from Arabic to English professionally for more than 20 years, translating across a wide variety of subjects and document types–from personal and legal documents to literary works that require as much attention to voice and style as to meaning. A former board member and secretary of the Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society, I remain actively engaged in the regional and national translation community.

Translation is, at its best, a practice of listening. Before I write a single word in English, I strive to understand what the Arabic text is actually doing, to hear its rhythm, its register, and the assumptions it makes about the reader. My goal is never a literal rendering, but a faithful one.

I continue to work with individuals who need accurate certified translations of personal documents and with publishers and authors bringing Arabic literature to English-language readers. My passion in literature is in genre fiction: science fiction and fantasy, mystery, and horror and blended genres that touch on these areas.

Each project is addressed individually because no two texts, and no two clients, are alike.
